The primary reason that I’ve created this blog is so that I can examine and share thoughts on material that we’ll cover in my Social Media for Public Relations class this fall. I obviously haven’t had any posts as of yet that have related directly to that class, but I’m really excited to start picking apart the things I’m learning. We’ve already done some reading on building and promoting our brands (which, at this point, would just be me promoting myself), online marketability, and we’re starting to read another section in a book on the new rules of marketing and PR.
I think the main reason I’m starting to get so excited about all of this is that I feel like before this year I didn’t really see exactly how I would be able to apply books on brand building and online marketing to my life. I’m starting to realize how relevant everything is, though, just in thinking about my online image. Of course I want to learn about these things so that I’ll be prepared for future job opportunities, but being able to see how it’s relevant now has made me so much more enthusiastic about reading more and discussing the information.
I hope to share the things that I learn in this class so that I can not only learn the information and apply it to my own “brand building,” but so that I can also help other people my age and older to do the same thing, and then, hopefully, carry those skills into careers. I think that the steps we’ll be taking in this class to bolster online presence are really important for anyone who wants to make it in the digital world. That being said, it will be my primary goal to ensure that I do a good job of demonstrating and discussing what makes a valuable online presence and why it is important so that I can make this class relate 100% to my everyday life.
